BOCA RATON, Fla. – Barry University (7-3) closed out the Doubletree Guest Suites Holiday Classic with a 74-62 victory over University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras. Pacing the Buccaneers were Melvin Triche, Otis White, Phil Puccia and Eddie Young. All four players scored in double-figures. Triche scored a team high 17 points; Puccia and White tailed 15 each and Young added 10.
The Buccaneers displayed a dominant performance in the first half by opening the contest with a 15-1 run before closing out the period with a 34-21 lead.
The Gallitos proved to be extremely resilient in the second half when they went on a 11-0 run of their own to pull within two points, 52-50 but the Bucs were able to stifle the comeback bid and take the contest.
Leading the Gallitos were Arnaldo Lopez who netted 17 points and Ansel Guzman with 11 points.
Triche also led the Bucs with nine total rebounds.
Barry will resume play on January 4th when they host Florida Tech at the Health & Sports Center as part of a double-header with the women’s basketball team. Tip-off is scheduled for the men at 5:30 pm.
