WINTER PARK, Fla.--The Barry Buccaneers recorded their second straight sweep of Bryant and Bentley in neutral site games at Rollins College's Alfond Stadium.
In the opener against Bryant (0-3), Jayson Brown (2-0) tossed a one-hit shutout, facing just one over the minimum to earn the win. He set down the last 21 in a row.
Josh Vargas went 2-for-3 and knocked in Brian Martinez with the only run Brown needed. Andrew Frezza also chipped in with two hits and an RBI. TJ Magnall collected the only hit for the Falcons.
In the nightcap, Bentley (0-2) struggled with their control, issuing nine walks. The Bucs (7-4) rapped out eight hits and took advantage of three Bentley errors to score 10 runs in a 10-7 win.
Falcon starter Brett Fistes (0-1) gave up five runs (four earned) on three hits and three walks in the first two innings.
The Bucs led 6-2 going into the fifth inning, but the Falcons got singles from Tim Denehy and Steve Gath and Garrett Stenhouse blasted a long homer to right field to trim the lead to 6-5 and chase Barry starter Brian Milanes.
Leading by one in the sixth, Danny Marquez delivered a three-run double with two outs that put Barry up 10-5 and the Bucs held on for the three-run win.
Marquez went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs, while Julio Diez crossed the plate three times. Stenhouse drove in three and scored twice, while Denehy rapped out three hits and scored twice.
Jason Wishin got the win in relief of Milanes. He went two innings allowing a run on two hits and two walks, striking out one. Bobby Hernandez worked around two hits in the ninth to record his third save.
The Bucs are back at Feinbloom Field on Tuesday, Feb. 20 hosting Palm Beach Atlantic at 6:00 pm.
