MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – #7 The University of West Florida upset #2 University of Alabama-Huntsville 2-1 in the second game of the NCAA Division II South Regional Softball Tournament.
Jillian LaFrance (17-7) was the hero for the Argonauts with both her pitching and her bat. In the top of the seventh inning, she drove in the winning run with a RBI single up the middle allowing Heather Bell to score the go-ahead run.
On the mound, LaFrance scattered eight hits in the complete game effort allowing one earned run with seven strike outs.
Sage Woodham (21-5) took the loss for the Chargers despite a solid performance. Woodham also allowed eight hits, giving up two earned runs and striking out three.
Nicky VanCamp registered the other RBI for West Florida, going one-for-two at the plate. LaFrance was three-for-four with a RBI.
Beth Lawson drove in the lone Charger run with her 10th homerun of the season. She was two-for-four at the plate.
West Florida advances to take on #3 Saint Leo in game seven of the tournament at 4:00 pm on Thursday, May 7th. UAH will take on #6 Valdosta State in the 11:00 am game at Buccaneer Field.
