FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.—Shyla Rider was named to the first team and Brittany Anderson made the second team when the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams were announced on Thursday.
Rider, a repeat pick from last year, is a senior with a 3.92 GPA in chemistry and biology as she prepares for medical school. Rider was named the 2008 Barry University, Sunshine State Conference and South Region Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. This year she hit .306 with a team-high 27 runs scored to lead the Bucs to a 32-19 mark, 14-10 in the SSC.
Anderson is also a senior with a 3.93 GPA in physical education. She made 166 straight starts behind the dish for the Bucs, every game for the last three years. This year, she hit .301 with 15 runs and 11 RBI.
Rider will now advance on to the national ballot. The Buccaneers represent District III (Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia).
