Hollywood - Carlos Velez was one of three qualifiers advancing to play in the U.S. Amateur (August 24-30) at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, OK. The rising senior fired a second-round 67 to finish one-under-par 143 (76-67) to force a playoff for the coveted last spot. Velez out-dueled Curtis Thompson and Ben Vertz to claim the final qualifying spot. Ryan Abbate won the qualifier at 140 with Jeronimo Esteve two stroke back.
