MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—John Koskinen has been hired as the first full-time assistant coach with the Barry University golf programs it was announced today by director of athletics Michael L. Covone. Koskinen will work with both the Buccaneer men’s and women’s golf programs.
He will assist with all aspects of the programs, including recruiting, planning practices and games, and NCAA compliance.
“The hiring of John will benefit the programs as he brings a wealth of playing experience at both the collegiate level and professionally,” head men’s coach Jimmy Stobs said. “The players are excited to learn from him the steps necessary to reach a higher level with their games.”
Koskinen competed collegiately at Michigan State from 1998-2003. He was a First-Team All-Big 10 and All-Midwest Region selection, as well as an Academic All-American.
He competed on the Summer and Winter Series of the Hooters Tour from 2005 to 2009, finishing second on the 2006 Winter Series money list. He also qualified for the 2006 and 2007 U.S. Opens.
“I am very excited to have John as our assistant coach,” women’s head coach Patti Rizzo said. “He is a real gentleman and represents the game of golf very well. He is very knowledgeable about the game since he played professional for many years. He was also an Academic All-American and understands the Division ll philosophy of ‘life in balance.’ I am sure he will help Coach Stobs and me to make our teams even better than they already are. I am very excited to welcome him aboard.”
