ORLANDO--Barry's Sascha Koettig and Johnny Rodrigues swept the Sunshine State Conference Men's Soccer Players of the Week for the period ending October 25 after leading the Bucs to a 2-0 upset over #3 Rollins in Winter Park, Fla.
Junior midfielder Koettig was named the offensive Player of the Week after scoring both of the Buccaneers' goals. Koettig first found the back of the net in the 74th minute, and then tallied an insurance goal in the 89th minute from 60 yards out. Koettig is second on the team in goals (6), assists (8) and points (20).
Freshman keeper Rodrigues was tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Week. He notched a shutout to preserve the 2-0 win. Rodrigues saved six of the Tars' seven shots on goal to give Rollins its first loss of the season, including a big stop on a penalty kick in the 86th minute with the Bucs up 1-0. Rodrigues, with his fifth shutout of the season, has led the Bucs to their best goals against average (0.86) since 2002.
The Bucs close out the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 3:00 at the McCusker Sports Complex in Boca Raton, Fla., against arch-rival Lynn.
