of the more dominating relief pitchers on the Buccaneer staff, but could
get an occassional mid-week start ... Great fastball and slider ... Solid
change up and curve ... Has good command of pitches ... Hard worker and
athletic ... Has the potential to become an All-American ... Could be one
of the best closers in the Sunshine State Conference.
SOPHOMORE
(2007): Led the team with 17 appearances ... Posted a 3.26 earned run average
and struck out 53 in 49.2 innings with only 23 walks ... Recorded six saves
at the Bucs’ closer ... Made six starts and hurled four complete
games with a 5-1 record on the hill.
FRESHMAN
(2006): Had an outstanding rookie campaign, going 4-1 with a 4.71 ERA in
13 games ... Struck out 28 and walked just 11 in 28.2 innings ... Held
opponents to a .238 average ... Won his only start with five innings against
Philadelphia 8-6 in Mar. 5 ... Struck out seven of 10 batters in 3.1 perfect
innings in 12-5 win over Palm Beach Atlantic on Apr. 25 ... Picked up relief
wins in conference against Lynn and Eckerd ... Went 2.2 scoreless innings
against the Tritons, striking out five.
HIGH
SCHOOL: Class of 2005 from Key West High ... Earned two letters in football
and three in baseball ... Coached by Ralph Rodriguez .. For the Conchs,
he posted a career 12-0 recored with a 1.90 ERA ... Led his squad to State
Championship in 2005 ... Also tabbed with All-State honors.
PERSONAL: Son of John and Kristi Hernandez ... Has three brothers, Kyle, Jake and
Karson ... Majoring in sport management.
