Jorge Correa
joins the Buccaneer coaching staff this spring, taking charge of the pitchers.
Correa spent the past eight years in Major League Baseball’s RBI
program, helping bring the game back to the inner cities. The 2003-04 he
work as the pitching coach at American High in Hialeah, Fla. The Patriots
reached the district tournament both years.
Correa was drafted out of Miami Senior High in the ninth round of the 1990
MLB Rule IV draft by the Houston Astros. He was a four-year letterman for
the Stingarees. During his sophomore year, he went 13-1 and led the team
to the district tournament, one of three appearances in his career. He set
the MSHS school record for strikeouts as a junior.
He pitched in the Astros organization for four years, culminating in a season
with the Auburn Astros of the High A New York –Penn League. His knowledge
of the game comes from playing alongside current Major Leaguers such as Bobby
Abreu, Kenny Lofton, Ryan Bowen and being coached by former MLB star Ceasar
Cedeno and current MLB pitching coach Jim Hickey (Tampa Bay Rays).
In addition to his work with the Bucs, he is also a member of PBS & J
engineering firm, where he is in charge of the purchasing department.
He is married to the former Ketsey Rodriguez of Miami, a fourth-grade teacher
at Joella C. Goode Elementary. They have two children, son Jayson and daughter
Jaylene.
