MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – After honoring the senior class before the game and after two weather delays, Barry University’s baseball team defeated Palm Beach Atlantic 17-5 in a game halted by rain in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Barry (27-18) got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first on Tyler Kellmann’s RBI double to right. After trading a pair of runs, the Bucs dropped four more in the fourth as Sheehan Planas-Arteaga picked up a pair of RBI’s with a double to left-center.

The Sailfish (24-19) kept battling, scoring two runs in the fifth to pull within three but the Buccaneers offense was running on all cylinders Saturday, adding three runs in the sixth and eight runs in seventh.

The seventh inning rally began with Michael Diaz getting hit by a pitch. After Joe Iorio single and a Sailfish error, Planas-Arteaga delivered his fourth hit of the game to drive in a run. Luis Arrizurieta was hit by a pitch and Adrian English came through with a sacrifice fly to deep right-center to plate another run.

Once again, Tyler Kellmann singled to center, picking up yet another RBI with his career-high fifth hit of the ball game. The game seemed to unravel at this point and with bad weather on the horizon, Michael Slabach and Tyler Kinley delivered back-to-back home runs. Slabach’s three-run homer was his third of the season and Kinley’s was the first of his career.

Soon after the game was stopped for the second weather delay of the day and eventually canceled.

Calvin Rayburn (7-2) tossed five innings and allowed just three runs, picking up his seventh win of the season.

Kevin Youst struck out two batters in two innings in relief as well.

The final game of the three-game series has been postponed and will be made-up at a later date.

Barry continues a stretch of nonconference action on Wednesday when they travel to St. Thomas. Live-stat and audio broadcast coverage will be available through the Barry University athletics website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
