Men's Basketball Survives Tiger Attack

LIVINGSTON, Ala.—The Barry Buccaneers celebrated Thanksgiving with a 72-67 win over the Stillman Tigers at the UWA Thanksgiving Classic on Friday in a nip-and-tuck affair at Pruitt Hall. The score was tied nine times and changed leads nine times in the game.

The Bucs (3-1) carried a two-point lead into halftime, despite turning the ball over 16 times in the half. Bryan Van Cott led the Bucs with nine points.

After the Tigers (0-3) scored the first two points of the period, the Bucs rolled off nine straight points over the first 3:05 to take a 36-27 lead on a fastbreak basket by Van Cott.

Down 40-32 with 13:57 to play, the Tigers responded with a 12-0 run over the next three minutes going up 44-40 on a steal and basket by Frankie Peoples with 10:27 remaining.

Van Cott knotted the at 52-52 with three free throws at the 6:46 mark and the Bucs went on a 15-4 run over the next five and half minutes, taking a 67-56 lead on a layup by Damian Dwaine with 1:17 left.

Van Cott led everyone with 20 points, while Justin McCoy and Aaron Martin each added 14. Jeffrey Wherry led Stillman with 19 points and D’uanaway Barnes had 10.

The Bucs will face the host West Alabama Tigers on Saturday at 1:00 pm Central time.
