MELBOURNE, Fla. -- Barry University's Yunio Barrueta was named the Sunshine State Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

"Especially after a big win, it feels good," said Barrueta, a 6-foot-6 junior foward. "With our team coming on and me personally performing, it's a great feeling. But more importantly, getting that win against the No. 1 team in the country was the best part of it."

Barrueta scored 26 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and had one block in the No. 10 Buccaneers' 107-102 win at No. 1 Florida Southern Saturday. It was his second straight double-double, and his fourth this season.

"I'm trying to stay consistent," said Barrueta, who leads the Bucs in scoring (18.5) and rebounding (8.4). "In that one week break, I was trying not to lose it. Consistency is what it is."

This marks the first SSC Player of the Week award for Barrueta, last year's league Newcomer of the Year and First-Team All-Conference selection.

Barry men's basketball has been represented with two consecutive SSC honors. Junior guard Anders Haas received the previous award before Christmas.

"We've been making history these past couple weeks," Barrueta said. "So we just got to continue to keep on performing the way we have, and maintain our focus."

The Bucs play at Rollins 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Winter Park, Florida, before returning home Saturday for a 4 p.m. tip against Palm Beach Atlantic.
