MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University senior volleyball player Tania Torres was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District Team.

Torres, a middle blocker/outside hitter from Camuy, Puerto Rico, has a 3.95 in biology.

"It's just a feeling of hard work pays off," said Torres, who prior to college attended a private school from seventh through 12th grades, earning a tuition scholarship. "I've always had to have a balance in school and volleyball. I've always been raised that school is always first."

She is Barry's leader in kills with 282, while starting in all 26 matches this year. Torres is second on the team in blocks with 70. As a junior, she led the Bucs in kills with 322, and was second on the team in blocks with 54.

Torres won the National Junior College Athletic Association of America Division I National Championship in 2010 while playing for Western Nebraska Community College.

Earlier this year, she was selected to two all-tournament teams. Last year she was named to the Sunshine State Conference All-Newcomer Team.

"This is a reward," Torres said of the CoSIDA academic honor. "It's a feeling of success, and why I can't stop. I have to keep working hard. It's how you see yourself reaching your goals."
