Buccaneer of the Week Archives
March 11, 2013
Barry sophomore OF/1B Sheehan Planas-Arteaga led the Buccaneers to a 3-0 weekly record, batting .667 with seven runs and seven RBI. Planas-Arteaga had multiple hits in each game and tallied three hits in two of them. He also had one extra-base hit in each contest, belting two doubles and one home run en route to a 1.083 slugging percentage. His home run, which came in the sixth inning of the Buccaneers’ first game against the University of the Sciences, tied the score at 4-4. The Bucs would go on to win 9-5. Planas-Arteaga recorded a .692 OPB in three outings.
Linda Fritschken had the biggest week of her two-year Buccaneer career. Moved up to No. 1 singles, she delivered a huge win over the third-ranked player in the country. That same day, she and partner Kimmy Twelker beat the 14th-ranked doubles team in the nation as No. 4 Barry beat No. 3 Abilene Christian on the road. It was Barry’s fourth match in six days in two states outside of Florida. Fritschken picked up two more dominant No. 2 doubles wins, and another No. 1 singles win in dynamite fashion, 6-0, 6-0, as the Bucs beat two more ranked teams to improve to 13-0.
