Buccaneer of the Week Archives
March 05, 2012
Facing a gauntlet of three road matches versus Top 15 teams, Leonel Vivas tallied two singles victories and three doubles wins as the No. 2 Buccaneers picked up a pair of victories. The sophomore opened the week with a 7-5, 7-5 #5 singles win over Alex Schubert in Barry’s 6-3 victory over No. 14 Georgia College. Vivas also joined Marco Mokrzycki for an 8-4 #2 doubles victory over Tyler Franks and Casper Konyves. In a match against No. 3 Armstrong Atlantic that was ultimately washed out by rain, Vivas and Mokrzycki had downed Sven Lalic and Pedro Scocuglia 9-7 in the #2 spot. Ending the week with a 5-2 victory over No. 12 Augusta State, Vivas took down Max Coulomb 6-2, 6-0 in the #6 singles position and joined Mokrzycki in the #2 doubles flight for an 8-4 win over Victor Cabellos and Victor Guimaraes.
Alexis Yohe went 3-0, including a 3-2 win over top-ranked Alabama-Huntsville. She struck out a career-high 12 against Mercyhurst on Tuesday, beat PBA on Wednesday, then helped the Bucs come back from being run-ruled in the first game to avoid the sweep by the Chargers. She held the powerful Chargers in the yard, despite a strong wind blowing straight out, walked just one and struck out seven, including key strikeouts in the sixth and seventh innings to preserve a one-run lead.
