HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. -- Barry University men's golfer Nico Cavero finished third at Johnson & Wales' Dave Adamonis Sr. Invitational Tuesday.
Cavero, a sophomore from Doral, Fla., shot 67-71-76 -- 214 to finish 2-under in the 76-player field at Weston Diplomat's Golf Resort's par 72 course. JWU's Damon Salo shot 6-under 210 to win the tournament by a stroke over College of Coastal Georgia's Chase Miller. Both of the top two shot 71 in the final round. Webber International's Greg Gentry shot par to finish fourth. Northwood's Adam Andreasson and South Carolina Beaufort's Jud Milam each shot 217 to tie for fifth.
The Buccaneers did not compete as a team in the tournament.
Barry's Berry Jole tied for 22nd with St. Thomas' Edgardo Arrozola and Northwood's Felix Aberg at 8-over 224. Jole shot 76 in the final round. Bucs senior Scott Smyers finished in a six-way tie for 26th at 226. He shot 74 in the third round.
Buccaneers newcomer Patrick Murray tied for 38th with three others at 229 after shooting 74 Tuesday. John Yutied for 48th at 233.
The Buccaneers, ranked No. 1 in the nation, will compete in the Otter Invitational in Monterrey, Calif., Monday and Tuesday.
