Championship Time: Tennis, Golf to Compete for Titles

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University is sending four teams to the NCAA Division II Championships.

Barry is the only school in the country that will have its men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s golf teams competing in the NCAA Championships, which begin Wednesday.

The Buccaneers women’s golf team is making its third consecutive and fourth overall trip to the NCAA Championships, to be held this year at the 5,928-yard, par-71 Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, North Carolina. The No. 3-ranked Buccaneers were the runner-up at the South/Southeast Regional. The four-round tournament runs Wednesday through Saturday.

Barry’s No. 1-ranked women’s tennis team is making its fifth straight and 19th overall appearance in the NCAA Championships. The Bucs (24-1) will play No. 42 Indiana (Pa.) at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Round of 16 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida, where Barry won the 2011 national title. The championships run through Saturday.

The Buccaneers No. 3-ranked men’s tennis team is headed back to the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row and the 18th time overall. Barry (23-2) meets No. 10 Drury (23-2) at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Sanlando Park, the site of the Bucs’ 2010 national title. The championship will be decided Saturday.

Barry’s No. 1-ranked men’s golf team is headed back to the NCAA Championships for a sixth straight year. The Bucs will be making their eighth overall trip to the championships, which will be held this year at The Meadows Golf Course’s 7,034-yard, par-71 layout in Allendale, Michigan May 19-23. Barry captured the 2007 NCAA title at The Meadows.
