ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Barry's women's golf team owns a 15-stroke lead after one round of the Flagler Fall Slam Monday.

The Buccaneers shot 8-over 296 to take the early lead over Tusculum (311) and Saint Leo (315). Flagler (314) and Mount Olive (314) are tied for fourth. All five Bucs are in the top 10 individually after the opening round.

Barry's Nicky Ferre (Weston, Fla./American Heritage HS) shot 1-under 71 to grab the early lead at the top of the player leaderboard on the 6,062-yard Marsh Creek Golf Course. It is the second straight week Ferre has shot 71 in a round, which ranks among the Buccaneers' top 10 in the program's history.

Nancy Vergara shot par, and is second individually. Maria Paola Fiorio's 4-over 76 is tied for sixth. Taylor Babcock's 5-over 77 is tied for 10th, along with Daniela Murray, who also shot 77 in the opening round.

Mount Olive's Emelie Andersson shot 1-over 73, Saint Leo's Lauren Petty a 74 and Armstrong Atlantic's Jenna Birch 75 to fill in the third through fifth spots.

Play concludes Tuesday in the 36-hole tournament.

Ferre had four birdies and three bogeys. Vergara had four birdies and four bogeys.
