MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University’s baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Georgia Southwestern Sunday afternoon with a 17-1 victory.

Unlike the first two games of the series, the Buccaneers jumped ahead and stayed ahead instead of rallying from behind.

From the start the Bucs looked hungry offensively as they jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning. Adrian English continued his hot hitting with a two-RBI double to centerfield to put the Bucs ahead. After a balk that scored Sheehan Planas-Arteaga, Tyler Kellmann belted a double to drive in English and give the Buccaneers an early lead.

Barry followed up with another four-run inning in the second to stretch the lead to 8-0. Tim Blackmon capped-off the second inning rally with a 2-RBI double to center.

Right-hander Calvin Rayburn had more than enough run support as he cruised through six innings of shutout baseball allowing just three hits without surrendering a walk.

Ahead 8-0 in the bottom of the fourth, the Bucs were looking to put the game completely out of reach. Luis Arrizurieta drove a line drive off the left field wall just missing a home run to lead off the inning. After a Planas walk, English belted his second double of the game this time off the centerfield wall also missing a home run by just a few feet, but still enough to drive-in Arrizurieta.

After a fly out and a hit-by-pitch, freshman Zac Burger stepped in looking for his first career hit. Burger drilled a grand slam home run over the right field fence, extending the Buccaneer lead to 13 and taking the air completely out of the Hurricanes.

Tim Blackmon struck out two in the seventh. Tony Borges tossed a scoreless eighth and Matthew Garlock closed out the ninth to complete the Buccaneers’ sweep.

Michael Slabach, English, Blackmon and Burger each finished the game with two hits.

English finished the series going 8-for-13 with four doubles, 10 RBI and a .923 slugging percentage. He also walked four times and did not strikeout throughout the series.

The Buccaneer pitchers as a staff finished with a 1.97 ERA in the three games.

Barry’s next game is this Saturday in Rome, Ga. where they’ll play a three game series versus Shorter University.
