CLEARWATER, Fla.—The 19th-ranked Barry Buccaneers fell twice on the final day of the Eckerd College Invitational at Eddie C. Moore Park in Clearwater, Fla., on Sunday. They lost 1-0 to eighth-ranked Tampa and 8-6 to Colorado Christian.
Against the Spartans (4-1), the only run crossed the plate in the second inning. Katlyn Raatz led off with a double down the left field line off Barry starter Alexis Yohe (1-1) and scored one out later on a single by Alyssa Coletti.
Kayla Cox (3-0) tossed a three-hit shutout for the Spartans (4-1) and struck out 12. Yohe took the loss allowing a run on three hits and a walk in 3.0 innings.
Against the Cougars (1-5), defensive miscues led to led to three unearned runs in the 8-6 loss. Camille Czarnecki (1-2) took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits and a walk in one inning of work.
The Bucs fell behind 4-1 in the third inning thanks to a three-run double by Alexa Coffing, but tracked back to make it 5-3 heading to the bottom of the sixth inning. CCU scored three runs on two hits and three errors in the frame. The Bucs matched that with three runs in the seventh, but ended up two runs short.
Mariah Bledsoe (1-2) went the distance for the win. She allowed six runs (four earned) on 12 hits, walked two and struck out four.
The Bucs travel next weekend to the UAH Charger Chillout in Decatur, Ala., for six key in-region games.
