BOCA RATON, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers bounced the Lynn Knights 1-0 in the rubber game of their Sunshine State Conference softball series at Lynn Softball Field on Monday.

In a series that was hammered by the weather, game three also took a hit, getting called for lightning in the top of the seventh inning with the Buccaneers leading 1-0.

The Bucs (26-16, 13-5 SSC) finally broke through against Knights starter Kasey Murray (11-14) in the fifth inning. Megan Copeland reached on an error by Lynn first baseman Kaci Vassallo, who dropped the throw from Danielle McNeill leading off the inning. Sarah Broeseker followed with a bunt single. After a sacrifice, the Bucs tried to squeeze Copeland in from third, but Alexis Kent’s bunt went straight back to Murray who flipped to catcher Devin Kochergen for the out. With two away, Kelly Martinez launched a double into the right center field gap to score Broeseker. The run snapped a 17 inning scoreless streak for the Bucs.

Alexis Yohe (14-6) made the run stand up. She retired all but two of the batters she faced, allowing a leadoff walk to McNeill in the first and a leadoff single to Murray in the fifth. Neither runner advanced past first. Yohe struck out six in tossing the one-hit shutout. She set down 13 Knights in a row after the leadoff walk to McNeill and faced the minimum the rest of the way as Murray was thrown out trying to steal.

Murray took the loss for the Knights, allowing just the one unearned run on five hits and four walks. She hit one batter and had one wild pitch and struck out two.

Martinez led the Bucs at the plate with a pair of doubles. Broeseker, Natalia Ojeda and Ashley Fernandez each had one hit.

The Bucs travel to Melbourne, Fla., this weekend for a key SSC matchup with the Panthers. The Bucs come into the series one game behind Saint Leo for the conference lead and tied with Tampa for second place.
