MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University's George Samuel was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Region Men's Tennis Coach of the Year.

"It's a great privilege and honor to be recognized by my peer coaches for the efforts made that have had such a successful impact on the success of the tennis season," Samuel said. "However, it certainly would not have been possible to receive such an award without the help of my assistant coaches who have worked equally hard for the success we have had."

Samuel won the ITA National Coach of the Year award in 1999. Earlier this year, Samuel picked up his 400th career victory with the Bucs men's program.

His No. 1-ranked Buccaneers (25-0) play No. 32 Northwood (17-4) at 10 a.m. EST Wednesday in the NCAA Division II Championships Round of 16 in Surprise, Ariz.

Barry completed its first unbeaten regular season in school history this year.

The ITA National Coach of the Year and other awards will be announced Tuesday at a banquet in Surprise.
