MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped a 4-3 shootout to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish in men’s soccer action at Buccaneer Field on Wednesday night.

In a back and forth game, national goal leader Kenny Hogg for the Sailfish scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute after a turnover by the Bucs in the midfield. Evan Singlar led a jailbreak of PBA players and Hogg finished off for the goal.

Lucas Coutinho got the Sailfish (4-1-1) on the board in the fourth minute. Hogg had a nifty back heel pass for the assist.

The Bucs (3-5-1) tied the game in the 10th minute. Joong Kim lift a long cross that went over the head of Patrick Drmola, but Thomas Coombes was there for the header and the goal.

The game stayed tied through the half. Just four minutes into the second period, Shaun Herselman ripped a shot through the teeth of the Sailfish defense from 45 yards out that skipped past keeper Austin Spagnola into the goal.

Hogg assisted on another goal in the 56th minute when his shot was blocked by Buccaneer keeper Johnny Rodrigues, but Cory Smith was there to knock in the rebound.

Hogg put the Sailfish up 3-2 on the 58th minute. The Buccaneer defense tried to pass back to Rodrigues but did not have enough pace on it and Hogg raced past to go one-on-one for the goal.

The Bucs got the equalizer in the 71st minute. Mubmi Kwesele won the ball in the midfield and fed Drmola on the left wing for the goal from 12 yards out.

The Bucs missed a golden opportunity in the 60th minute. Kim was dragged down in the box by defender James Kaim, but Kim’s penalty kick was stopped by Spagnola. Kim also had an open goal in the ninth minute when Spagnola, who had come off his line, sent a low clearance that Kim intercepted at the top of the box. His shot, however, was swept off the line by defender Chris Karafilov.

Spagnola had 10 saves for the Sailfish, while Rodrigues made six saves for the Bucs.

Barry opens Sunshine State Conference play on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Florida Southern.
