MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Juan Ferrales scored a career-high 34 points, Yunio Barrueta had a double-double, and Barry University men's basketball team held on to beat Belmont Abbey, 95-93, Saturday in the Barry Thanksgiving Classic.

Ferrales was 12 of 20 from the field, including 7 of 12 from beyond the arc. Barrueta had 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Belmont Abbey (3-5) led 87-84 with 2:53 to play when Tyler Horn scored on a layup. Barry's Savad Garner scored at the 2:27 mark to cut the gap to one, and Ferrales scored on a lay-in with 1:48 to go to put the Buccaneers (4-0) ahead by one. Garner gave the Bucs a three-point lead with a layup at the 1:14 mark, and Ferrales' bucket with 38 seconds left padded the Bucs lead at five.

The Crusaders closed to within two, 92-90, on Chris Davis' layup, but Ferrales sank a pair of free throws to extend the lead back to four. Justin Kuhlman's triple with six seconds left pulled Belmont Abbey within one, but Ferrales hit one of two free throws, and the Crusaders couldn't get a final shot off.

It was a game that featured 17 lead changes and 10 ties.

Barry outrebounded Belmont Abbey, 39-30.

The Buccaneers shot 45.7 percent from the field, going 32 of 70. The Crusaders hit 53.4 percent of their shots, going 31 of 58.

Magne Fivelstad finished with 21 points and eight rebounds. Deric Hill matched a career-best 10 assists, and the Buccaneers were 11 of 23 from beyond the arc for 47.8 percent.

Belmont Abbey's Ryan Conrad scored 27 points, and Ray Chen had 21.

Barry will host Tampa in the Sunshine State Conference opener next Saturday at 4 p.m.
