Men's Golf Concludes Fall Season

SEASIDE, Calif. – Barry University men’s golf team finished fifth at the Otter Invitational, hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay.

The Buccaneers, who completed the fall season with its fourth top-five finish, shot 307 in the final round for a 908 54-hole total at Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Club. Nova Southeastern won the tournament, shooting 21-over 885 in the 18-team event.

British Columbia was second, five strokes behind the Sharks, and the host Otters third at 893.

Nova’s Richard Mansell won the tournament with a 1-under 215. He was 1-over in Tuesday’s final round. Mansell was the only golfer to break par. Runner-up Alistair Docherty of Chico State shot even par. British Columbia’s Conner Kozak and Evan Holmes tied for third at 4-over 220.

Barry’s Mario Beltran tied with Western Washington’s Chris Hatch for 11th at 9-over 225. Beltran, who last year shared the co-medalist honor at the tournament, shot 77 in the final round. Buccaneers teammate Mike Anderson finished in a nine-way tie for 13th, a stroke behind Beltran. He shot 79 in Tuesday’s rougher conditions.

Nico Cavero tied for 32nd at 14-over 230. He shot 77 in the third round, Berry Jole shot 78, finishing at 232 for a tie for 41st. Juan Yumar had the lowest round of the day for the Bucs, shooting a 3-over 75 to tie for 58th.
