MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The second-ranked Barry Buccaneers women’s soccer team shutout the Florida Southern Moccasins 2-0 at Buccaneer Field on Saturday to avenge the only blemish on their record.
The Bucs (10-1-2, 6-0-1 SSC) ran their unbeaten streak to 19 games and put themselves in the position to defend their regular season title and earn the right to host the Sunshine State Conference Tournament. The Mocs (4-8-3, 0-8-0 SSC) have not won since beating the Buccaneers on Sept. 20.
Shanice Robe got the Buccaneers on the board in the 29th minute. Amanda Traynor came off the bench to slide a cross along the top of the Mocs’ penalty area and Robe lined up a blast from 19 yards out.
Leading 1-0 at the half, the Bucs added an insurance goal in the 58th minute. Lavinia Nkomo got on the end of a corner from Tamara Vuckovich and headed the ball past Erin Moseley for the 2-0 lead.
The Bucs only managed to put three of their 14 shots on goal, but made two of them count. The Mocs only managed one shot on frame, but Becca Rogers came up with the save to post her sixth shutout of the season.
The Bucs close the regular season on Nov. 1 at Eckerd in St. Petersburg, Fla., in a make-up game from earlier this year. A win over the Tritons clinches the SSC regular season title, #1 seed in the conference tournament and the right to host the final four.
