DAVIE, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers, playing short-handed, fell 70-61 to the Union (Tenn.) Bulldogs at the Nova Southeastern Thanksgiving Classic on Friday at the Taft University Center.

The Bucs (3-2) were without three starters as Kaylia Richardson, Kimbreli Flournoy and Amra Elezovic all missed the contest.

The Bulldogs (3-0) jumped out to a big lead early in the contest, going up 13-5 in the first five minutes behind 10 points from DeAnna Thompson. They stretched the lead to as many as nine on several occasions, the last coming at 7:11 on a three-pointer from Emily Sisson that put Union up 23-14.

But the Bucs clawed their way back into the ball game and took their first lead of the game, 30-29, on a jumper by Nyjah Porcher with 0:48 seconds left. After a pair of free throws by Union, Ashley Lutz hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the Bucs into the halftime up 33-31.

The Bucs opened the second half with a 9-4 run that put them up 42-35 with 14:52 remaining on a Jackie Perez three-pointer. But the Bucs went cold from the field, hitting just 9-of-25 the rest of the game and the Bulldogs went on a 20-6 run over the next seven minutes to flip the score and go up 55-48.They pushed the lead to as many at 13, before settling for a nine-point win.

Amy Philamlee led the Bulldogs with 23 points, including 17 in the second half. Thompson had 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Kelsey Risner added 15 points and 15 boards. Pocher led Barry with 13 points, Lutz chipped in 11 and Toni Neibler came off the bench to score a career-high 10 points.

The Bucs will face the Stillman Tigers on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 4:00 pm in the final game of the tournament.
