ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Wednesday night at the Turley Sports Complex, Barry University’s men’s soccer team battled the Tritons of Eckerd College to a 1-1 draw in a double overtime match.

The Buccaneers (2-4-1) held a slight shots advantage in the first half, 7-6, but neither team scored in the opening period.

Just seven minutes into the second half, Daniel Lopez got the Tritons on the board to take the 1-0 lead.

Thomas Coombes collected his third goal of the season in the 76th minute mark to tie the match at 1-1 and eventually sent the game into overtime.

Neither the Bucs nor the Tritons were able to get a shot off in the first overtime period and in the second half Barry put one shot on goal but to no avail. The Buccaneer defense came up strong in overtime play as they did not allow a single shot on goal, but could not take advantage on the offensive end and the match played out to a 1-1 draw.

Up next for the Buccaneers are the defending national champions and rival Fighting Knights of Lynn University on Saturday.

Live-stat and video broadcast coverage from Buccaneer field will be available through the Barry University athletics website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
