Volleyball Drops Weekend Finale to Lynn

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University lost a three-set match to Lynn to complete its Rivalry Weekend with a win and loss.

After sweeping Nova Southeastern Friday, the Bucs fell to Lynn, 25-14, 27-25, 25-21, Saturday in Health & Sports Center. Barry (5-6, 1-3 Sunshine State Conference) hit .148, while the Knights (12-5, 2-2) attacked at a .210 clip.

Barry's Ivana Didanovic had eight kills, hit .421, and was credited with four blocks. Jasmine Serna had 18 digs after switching from her first-set setter's role into a libero role in the final two sets. Jenny Trinidad, who assumed the setting duties in the second set, had 16 assists and an ace. She entered the weekend ranked 19th in the NCAA Division II in aces per set.

Lynn had 47 kills to Barry's 27. The Knights, who hit .355 in the opening set, put away 15 balls against four errors in 31 attempts to seize control in one-sided opening set. Lynn's Mary Claire Angelish had 10 kills and two blocks, while Angie Caple had 11 kills and two blocks. Both of them hit .350 or better.

Barry raced out to an 8-3 lead in the middle set before a kill by Lynn's Katie Knight, who finished with eight putaways and 13 digs, knotted the score at 10-10 with a kill. Kristen Reid served an ace for the Bucs, and a Knights attack erro gave Barry an 18-14 edge.

Didanovic's kill moved the Bucs to set termination point, 24-21, before the Fighting Knights rallied to tie it by securing the ensuing three points. Ashley Carrero banged down a kill to give the Bucs a 25-24 lead, but Lynn won the next three serves to take a 2-0 match lead into the intermission.

The Fighting Knights hit .075 on 14 kills and 10 errors in the second set. But they responded with 18 kills and a .275 attack rate in the third set, doubling the Buccaneers' kills output in the final set. Barry had nine kills in 38 attempts in the decisive set.

Both teams had four blocks apiece. Lynn had six aces, while Barry managed three.

The Buccaneers play at Saint Leo and Florida Southern Friday and Saturday.
