Onila Captures SSC Women's Tennis Player of Week

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Barry sophomore Emma Onila has been recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week presented by VALIC.

Onila, who is ranked No. 8 in nation, defeated No. 12 Kristina Huba of Florida Tech in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, in top singles action in No. 3 Barry's 9-0 victory over the No. 15 Panthers. Onila then teamed with Linda Fritschken to defeat Huba and Natasa Vukovic in No. 1 doubles action, 8-3. Against NAIA No. 7 Embry-Riddle, the Division II top doubles team, Onila and Fritschken, defeated the NAIA's No. 1 doubles team, Hui-I Huang and Kristina Marova, 8-2. The Buccaneers defeated the Eagles, 8-1.

It is the second time in her career Onila has been selected as the SSC's Player of the Week. She did so also as a freshman. Onila is coming off one of the best fall doubles seasons in school history, having won the ITA South Region Championships, the ITA Small College Championships and Super Bowl tournaments with partner Linda Fritschken. 

Onila was a doubles All-American last season, while playing with longtime partner Elisabeth Abanda.
