Rowing's 8 Claims San Diego Crew Classic Title

SAN DIEGO -- Barry University rowing crew's Varsity 8 won the NCAA Division II/Division III/Club Grand Final Sunday in the San Diego Crew Classic at Crown Point Park.

The Buccaneers, who own the No. 2 national ranking in Division II, beat seven other boats with a winning time of 7:16.12. Barry's 8 crew was made up of coxsawin Angela Dasch, stroke Beth Desmond, Kristina Boncheva, Sam McKenzie, Luna Ugrenovic, Jelena Momirov, Paola Girotto, Anais Foppoli and bow Mandy Carper.

The Bucs beat UC Santa Barbara by 4.5 seconds. Central Oklahoma was third in 7:28.08, and Wichita State finished fourth in 7:16.12.

It was Barry's first title of the spring.

Barry's Varsity 4 placed fourth in the DII/DIII/Club Grand Final. The Buccaneers boat of cox Stephanie Dinkel, stroke stroke Ellie Hartman, Rebekah Kilroy, Lulu Mariscal and bow Spiadge Anthony finished with a time of 8:36.84. UC San Diego won the race in 8:23.24, and Central Oklahoma was the runner-up in 8:31.87. 

The Bucs will compete in the Sunshine State Conference Championships April 25 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla.
