Men's Tennis Beats Bobcats in Home Finale

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University's No. 2-ranked men's tennis team beat St. Thomas (Fla.), 8-1, Friday in the final regular season home match.

The Buccaneers (18-2) won all three doubles and five of the singles matches. St. Thomas fell to 2-12.

Barry's Fabian Groetsch and Franco Echenique needed a tiebreaker to decide the No. 1 doubles match with Juan Bravo and Grover Ordonez before the Bucs pair prevailed, 9-8 (7-1). Barry's Eduardo Alfonzo and Romain Costamagna beat Nicolas Etienne and Jamie Spruill, 8-2, at No. 2. Barry's Ollie Lemaitre and Nico Dreer were 8-1 winners over Matias Dasso and Hicham Larhnimi at No. 3.

Groetsch, ranked 11th in NCAA Division II singles rankings, beat Etienne, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1. Bravo was a 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 11-9, winner over Echenique at No. 2. Alfonzo beat Ordonez, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3.

Lemaitre defeated Josh Rosner, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4. Dreer beat Dasso, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 5. Barry's Leo Vivas was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Ariel Listo at No. 6.

The Bucs will finish the regular season 3:30 p.m. Monday at Palm Beach Atlantic.
