Women's Soccer Topples 7th-Ranked Tars

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The 21st-ranked Barry Buccaneers scored twice and held on for a 2-1 upset of the seventh-ranked Rollins Tars at Buccaneer Field on Saturday.

Shanice Robe put the Bucs (5-1-1, 2-0-0 SSC) on top in the 18th minute. The Tars turned the ball over in the middle of the field and Robe carried the ball forward into a deserted space. She made a swift move at the top of the box and ended with a one-on-one chance against Tars keeper Mary Spring, which she converted for the first goal.

The score held up until just after halftime. In the 48th minute, Rayah Seckler found Lavinia Nkomo running free in the box and Nkomo converted another one-on-one chance against Spring.

Barry ran into a problem in the 55th minute when reigning SSC Defensive Player of the Year Becca Rogers had to leave after being injured. Paula Ferero came off the bench and held the lead for the Bucs, despite surrendering a goal to Allie Holly in the 60th minute.

Rogers had two saves to earn the win for the Bucs, while Forero made four as she was under constant pressure. Spring had eight saves for Rollins.

The Bucs next play at Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 4:30 pm at Nova Southeastern.
