MIAMI SHORES, Fla.- On a night when both sides fought a tough, physical game, Barry Men’s Soccer came up just short as they fell 1-0 to the University of Tampa.

The Bucs out-shot the Spartans 17-11, forced Tampa’s goalkeeper Zak Downes to make a majority of the saves and had the ball hit the post after a perfect shot from Leonel Awokang in the 68th minute. Tonight was just one of those nights when everything ended up just short for the Buccaneers.

Frank Lustig played a noteworthy game, running all over the field and creating chance after chance for his team.

Ruaridh Kay deserves plenty of credit as well as, due to an injury to Pablo Georgakopoulos, Kay went from his usual midfielder position to being drafted into playing in a central defender role and performing admirably.

Barry’s defense kept its composure for most of the game but in the 73rd minute a defensive breakdown in the six yard box allowed Tampa’s Monty Berrow to score the game winner.

The Bucs would try to get the equalizer for the rest of the game, but failed to do so before the full time whistle was blown.

Up next for Barry Men’s Soccer is a trip up to West Palm Beach to take on Palm Beach Atlantic on Tuesday, October 14 at 7:00 pm.
