Women's Basketball Hosts Lions To Open Conference Play

MIAMI SHORES, Fla—The Barry Buccaneers open their Sunshine State Conference slate on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 2:00 pm against the Saint Leo Lions.

The Buccaneers (4-2) hold a robust 39-16 edge in the all-time series, but the Lions (4-1) swept the season series from the Bucs in 2013-14 for just the third time and the first since 1999. Since 1999, the Bucs have won 26 of 31 games.

The Buccaneers have been a little more efficient on the offensive end this season, averaging more points and shooting better from the field, three-point range and the line. The Lions have done better work on the defensive side of the ball, posting better numbers in scoring defense, field goal percentage defense and turnover margin.

Junior guard Jackie Perez has led the Bucs this year, averaging 15.8 points per game. She is shooting 51.3 percent from three-point range and averages 3.3 made per game from long range. Senior forward Nyjah Porcher has been a jack of all trades for Barry this season. She is second on the team in scoring at 13.5 per game, second in rebounding at 6.2 and tops on the squad with 4.3 assists per game.

The Lions are led by freshman guard Mary Redmond, who averages 14.3 points per game. Senior forward Melissa Jackson averages a double-double with 12.6 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.

The game will be a "Buccaneer Black Out" as the team will wear their black uniforms and all fans are encouraged to wear black and support the Bucs.
