MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University men's basketball announced the signing of guard Bouna N'Diaye, a 6-foot-7, 190-pound swingman from Bergen, Norway.
N'Diaye played prep school ball at Phelps School in Malvern, Penn. He's also played extensively overseas.
At age 19, he averaged 8.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while playing for Gimle BBK in 22 games in 2011. N'Diaye, the brother of former Buccaneer Calix N'Diaye, who steered Barry to its first NCAA Division II National Tournament in the 2004-05 season, was named the rookie of the year while playing with Gimle.
In three games with the Under-20 Nordic Championship Team in June, N'Diaye averaged 12.3 points, 3.3 assists and three rebounds. He averaged 10.6 points and 3.4 assists in seven games. He shot 48 percent from the field, hitting 24 of 50 field goals.
"He's a legitimate Division I talent who will bring athleticism and a tremendous skill-set to our team," Barry assistant coach Ryan Saunders said. "He has the potential to be one of the more athletic players on the roster. He has a very good feel for the game. He's very smooth.
"We hope he'll follow in his brother's footsteps, in terms of his will to win and his killer instinct. He's almost too unselfish at times."
