WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Barry University volleyball players Ashley Carrero and Tania Torres were named to the Pepsi Bash at the Beach All-Tournament team, as selected by competing teams coaches.
Carrero, a junior from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, had a team-best 14 kills in a five-set loss to host Palm Beach Atlantic Friday. She had three kills, two digs, an assist and hit .500 in one set of Barry's three-set sweep of Bentley Saturday morning. Carrero did not play in the Buccaneers' sweep of Claflin to conclude the two-day event Saturday afternoon.
Torres, a senior from Camuy, Puerto Rico, collected 12 kills, 10 digs and two blocks in the loss to PBA. Against Bently, the Buccaneers leader put away three balls on five attempts, had a block, an assist and a dig in one set. She had three kills in as many attempts and a block in the win over Claflin, playing in one set.
Barry (10-7, 3-3 Sunshine State Conference) plays at No. 5 Tampa (13-2, 6-0) at 7 p.m. Friday. The Bucs will meet Eckerd (11-6, 5-1) at 4 p.m. Saturday.
