Martinez and Yohe Claim Softball Weekly Spotlight

WINTER PARK, Fla.--Barry's Kelly Martinez and Alexis Yohe were named Sunshine State Conference Softball Players of the Week presented by VALIC.

Sophomore second baseman Martinez batted an impressive .900 (9-for-10) with five runs and five RBI to lead the Buccaneers to four SSC wins last week, all of which came on the road. Martinez tallied multiple hits in each contest to record a .929 on-base percentage. She also tallied a pair of doubles while notching a 1.100 slugging percentage. In a single game against Lynn that was postponed due to rain the prior weekend, Martinez went 2-for-2 and drove in the winning run to give the Bucs a 1-0 victory. She then went 7-for-8 in a series sweep at Florida Tech to extend her hitting streak to six games. Martinez was 1-for-1 in stolen base attempts and did not commit an error in the field.

Senior Yohe tallied a 3-0 record, including a pair of shutouts, one of which was a perfect game. She began the week by permitting just one hit and one walk with six strikeouts in a 1-0 shutout at Lynn. Her perfect game came in a 10-0, five-inning victory at Florida Tech. She struck out seven Panther batters in that contest. She wrapped the week by earning the win in a 9-1 decision in the series finale at Tech, permitting one earned run on eight hits with no walks. She fanned eight. Over 17.0 innings of work, Yohe scattered nine hits and one walk with 18 strikeouts. She tallied a 0.41 ERA.

The Bucs host the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish tonight, the first of five straight home games to close the regular season. First pitch is set for 5:00 pm and the doubleheader will be carried live on the Buccaneer Broadcasting Network, powered by Stretch Internet.
