VARSITY 8+ FIRA RUNNER-UP HIGHLIGHTS 

FELLSMERE, Fla. -- Barry University rowing crew's Varsity 4+ won the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships Saturday at Canal 54.

The Buccaneers boat of coxswain Stephanie Dinkel, stroke Paola Giroto, Monika Kaminska, Rosie Boncheva and bow Beth Desmond crossed the line in 13:48. Nova Southeastern was second in 14:18. Jacksonville was third in 14:40.

Barry's B crew of cox Angela Dasch, stroke Lauren Hillard, Sam McKenzie, Rebekah Kilroy and bow Miriam Zaga placed ninth in 16:00 in the 11-boat race to complete the fall portion of the 2013-14 schedule. 

In the Varsity 8+ race, the Bucs crew of Dasch, serving as the coxwain, Boncheva, who sat in the stroke seat, Anais Foppoli, Girotto, Desmond, Luna Ugrenovic, Jelena Momirov, Mandy Carper and bow Katarzyna Walentynowicz finished second in 13:18, seven seconds behind Nova. Jacksonville was third in 13:25.

Barry's B boat of Dinkel (cox), stroke Elisa Lombardi, Ellen Hartman, Aude Tchie, Mikala Merchant, Zaga, Lulu Mariscal, Nicole Cristo and bow Albany Jones was eighth in 16:13. 

The Buccaneers will return to the water in the spring.
