Men's Golf Shares Lead with Lynn at Southeastern Collegiate

VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Barry University's men's golf team shares the lead with Lynn University after two rounds of the First Federal Southeastern Collegiate at Kinderlou Forrest Golf Club.

The No. 1-ranked Buccaneers shot 291-281 -- 572 on the 7,113-yard, par-72 course Monday. Lynn shot 289-0283 -- 572 in the opening two rounds. Valdosta State and Armstrong Atlantic are tied for third at 583, and North Alabama is fifth at 589 in the 18-team, 90-player field.

Georgia College & State's Bryan Fox is the first-day leader after shooting a 4-under 69-71 -- 140 through 36 holes. Lynn's Ernesto Vitienes is tied with Saint Leo's Ryan Gendron, a stroke back at 141. Barry's Adam Svensson is tied for fourth with Lynn's Martin Cancino and Armstrong Atlantic's Shad Tuten at 2-under 142. Svensson shot 74-68 in Monday's two rounds.

Svensson had seven birdies Monday, including five in the second round when he made just one bogey. He had four bogeys in the first round.

All five Barry players are separated by four strokes -- each of them within a stroke of another teammate.

Barry senior teammate Jared Dalga is seventh, a stroke behind the three-way tie for fourth at 143. He shot 1-under 71 in the opening round before capping the first day at even par in the second. Dalga had four birdies in Round 1 and four more in Round 2. Bucs senior Scott Smyers is in a five-way tie for eighth at even par. He shot 71-73, firing off eight birdies on the first day. He sank five birdie putts in the opening round and three more in the second. Smyers had eight bogeys on the day.

Junior Berry Jole is tied for 13th at 145. He had seven birdies Monday, including five in the second round when he shot a 2-under 70. Jole shot 75 in the opening round. Freshman Mario Beltran is tied for 18th at 146 after shooting 75-71. He had one birdie and four bogeys in the first round and three birdies and two bogeys in the second.

Final round coverage is set for Tuesday morning.
