EATONTON, Ga. – Barry University men’s golf team is tied for seventh after one round of the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Georgia College Monday.
The No. 1-ranked Buccaneers shot 310 in the sub-50 degree, rainy weather at The Golf Club of Cuscowilla’s 6,847-yard, par-70 course. The second round was cancelled, and play is scheduled to resume Tuesday with one final round.
Barry sophomore Adam Svensson is third after shooting 2-over 72. He trails leader Fredrik Lindblom of Clayton State by three strokes. Lindblom was the only golfer in the 93-player, 17-team field to shoot under par. Armstrong Atlantic’s Shad Tuten is second at 1-over 71.
Svensson birdied the 378-yard, par-4 first and the 298-yard, par-4 12th holes. Lindblom leads the field with four birdies.
Clayton State leads the tournament by four strokes over Nova Southeastern and Armstrong after compiling a 299 team total. Nova and Armstrong both shot 303. South Carolina-Aiken is fourth at 304, and Lynn fifth at 307.
Barry senior Jared Dalga is tied for 22nd after his opening-round 77. Junior Berry Jole shot 80 in the rough conditions. Senior Scott Smyers was a stroke behind Jole, while freshman Mario Beltran carded an 85. Senior Marcelo Huarte, competing as an individual, had a 92.
Svensson accounted for 12 of the Buccaneers’ 43 pars. Armstrong and South Carolina-Aiken led the field with 51 pars. Clayton State led the field with nine birdies. The Bucs were 2-over on par-5 scoring holes. Lander and Carson-Newman were even on the longest holes to lead the tournament.
Barry hosts the Buccaneer Invitational presented by Carrabba’s March 31-April 1 at Normandy Shores Golf Club in Miami Beach.
