Volleyball Falls to No. 25 Sailfish

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University’s volleyball team lost to No. 25 Palm Beach Atlantic, 25-15, 25-13, 25-19, Tuesday at the Health & Sports Center.

The Buccaneers (8-3) were playing in their third match in five days, and suffered their first three-set loss of the season, and their first setback to a ranked opponent this year.

Barry hit .241 in the opening set, but converted on 12 of 25 sideout opportunities, while the Sailfish (13-0) had a .379 attack rate and connected on 12 of 15 sideouts to win the first set comfortably.

The Bucs struggled on the attack in the second set, however, converting seven kills against seven errors. PBA hit .300 with 14 kills, to take a two-set lead into the intermission.

Barry battled in the third set, drawing two ties and forcing two lead changes, but PBA was too much. Barry was held to .029 hitting in the third set. The Bucs had 10 kills and nine errors.

Jayla Trombley finished with six kills and four block assists for the Buccaneers. Ivana Didanovic had five kills and three block assists. Jasmine Serna had 14 assists, and Jenny Trinidad had 10. Brittany Jaco had 14 digs.

PBA’s Emma Ballantyne finished with 12 kills, and Faith Rohn had nine. Becca Acevedo had 35 assists. Sarah Ragland had seven blocks.

The Sailfish had 11 blocks to the Bucs’ 8.5. Barry was 36 of 74 in sideout conversions for 48 percent. PBA was 37 of 48 for 77 percent.

Barry will play at Lynn Friday and Florida Tech Saturday.
