FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. -- Barry University’s doubles team of Emma Onila and Linda Fritschken’s run came to an end at the United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Friday at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

The Buccaneers duo lost to second-seeded Emina Bektas and Alexandria Najarian of Michigan, 6-3, 6-3, in the consolation round.

After winning their opening round match against Notre Dame’s Quinn Gleason and Monica Robinson, Onila and Fritschken met the Nos. 3 and 2 seeds in successive matches of the NCAA Division I-dominated fall-closing event.

Barry’s pair won 18 consecutive matches in the ITA South Region and Small College Championships over the past two years, earning the right to play in back-to-back Indoor Championships as the lone Division II representative.

That completes the fall season for the tennis program. Barry will compete again in February in team dual matches.
