KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- Barry women's golf team finished fourth at the Tusculum/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate Sunday.
The Buccaneers, who started the final round in second, shot 299-318 -- 617 on the 5,800-yard Cougar Point course. Lynn repeated as the event champion, winning the tournament with a 16-over 592. UNC Pembroke was second at 35-over 611, and West Florida third at 614.
Savannah College of Art Design, which was one stroke behind the No. 4 nationally-ranked Buccaneers to start Sunday's final round, finished fifth, seven strokes behind Barry.
Barry sophomore Daniella Murray shot a 2-over 74 in the final round, finishing tied for eighth at 7-over 157. Bucs freshman teammate Maria Paola Fiorio also tied for eighth after shooting 73-78 -- 151.
Lynn's Samantha Smolen won the tournament at 2-under 142. Fighting Knights teammate Ellen Chambers was second at 3-over 147. Lander's T. Caballer Hernani and UNC Pembroke's Meghan Moore and Shauna Walor all tied for third at 4-over 148.
Barry's Taylor Babcock tied for 23rd, shooting 77-79 -- 156. Nancy Vergara tied for 33rd at 159 and Nicky Ferre shot 166.
Barry will compete in the Lady Moc Golf Classic in Lakeland Feb. 25=26.
