Women's Basketball Loses to Eckerd, 52-47

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University women's basketball team lost to Eckerd College, 52-47, Saturday night.

The Buccaneers (12-10, 4-9 Sunshine State Conference) trailed by as many as 15 in the first half, and never led in the game. But Barry rallied to tie the game late in the second half before Eckerd (11-10, 7-6) pulled away.

Barry junior guard Colette Eule's three-pointer with 5:14 to play tied the game for the first time since the opening tip. But the Bucs managed just two points the rest of the way, and the Tritons left Miami Shores with a win.

The Buccaneers were 15 of 52 from the field for 28.8 percent. Eckerd was 18 of 46 for 39.1 percent.

The Tritons built a 25-10 lead with 3:54 remaining in the first half when Krystal Charles sank a free throw. The Buccaneers went on a 12-3 run over the next three minutes to cut the gap to six on Tyler Hardy's layup. But Eckerd pushed the lead back to 10 by halftime.

Kaley Howard, who finished with 12 points, scored with 12:17 to go to pull the Buccaneers within 38-34. Howard converted a three-point play at the 9:16 mark to pull Barry within one, but the Tritons responded on its next possession when Kayla Bowlin scored on a lay-in.

Eule sank two free throws as Barry whittled the lead down to one again, but Charles answered with a pair from the stripe to keep Eckerd's lead at three. Eule's triple tied the game at 45-45, but Charles responded with a bucket on the other end, and the Tritons capped the game with a 7-2 run to put it away.

Hardy had 11 points, and Eule 10 points and four rebounds. Dominique Dixon had seven points and five rebounds, and Jackie Perez grabbed seven boards. Charles had 20 points and 11 boards for the Tritons.

Eckerd was 2 of 13 from beyond the three-point arc. Barry was 4 of 12.

The Buccaneers host Palm Beach Atlantic Wednesday. Barry's fall semester student-athletes who earned a 4.0 grade point average will be honored that night. Barry's homecoming king and queen will also be announced. The Miami Heat dancers will also be on hand for the game.
