No. 1 Bucs Men's Golf Win Southeastern Collegiate

VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Barry University's No. 1 nationally-ranked men's golf team came from nine strokes back in the final round of the First Federal Southeastern Collegiate to win its second tournament of the spring and third of the 2012-13 season.

Tuesday's title came exactly a month after the Buccaneers won their first this spring, having captured the Matlock Invitational on Feb. 12 in Lakeland.

Barry overcame Florida Southern in Tuesday's final round at the 7,140-yard Kinderlou Forest Golf Club, shooting 286 Tuesday to finish with a 54-hole total of 870. Florida Southern shot 299 in the final round, finishing second with an 874. Columbus State was third at 892.

Barry junior Jared Dalga shot his best round as a Buccaneer after transferring from Eastern Michigan in the fall, firing a 4-under 68 in the final round. He eagled the 566-yard, par-5 11th, and had four birdies on the back nine Tuesday to finish in a tie for second with teammate Adam Svensson on the individual leader board at 1-under 215. Dalga had five birdies Tuesday. Svensson shot par in the final round behind four birdies.

Svensson had 12 birdies in the tournament. Dalga had 11.

Florida Southern's Tim Crouch won the tournament, shooting a 6-under 210. He matched Dalga with a 68 in the final round. Eckerd's Jeff Evanier also tied for second at 1-under 215 after shooting 74 Tuesday.

Buccaneers senior Marcus Segerstrom tied for eighth, shooting a 2-under 70 in the final round to finish the three-round tournament at 220. Junior Scott Smyers tied for 12th at 222, following his 4-over 76 Tuesday. Junior Marcelo Huarte tied for 27th at 226, also shooting 76 in the final round.

Segerstrom sank five birdie putts Tuesday, and had 10 for the tournament. Smyers birdied two holes in the final round, and finished with five over the two-day event. Huarte birdied the 540-yard 14th Tuesday, and had four in the tournament.

The Buccaneers will compete in the Bobcat Intercollegiate next Monday and Tuesday in Eatonton, Ga.
