Mokrzycki Earns 3rd SSC Men's Tennis Award

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Barry senior Marco Mokrzycki has been tabbed Sunshine State Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week presented by VALIC.

Mokrzycki (Hannover, Germany) picked up a pair of victories over No. 1-ranked opponents as the fourth-ranked Buccaneers beat top-ranked Armstrong Atlantic, 5-4, in a showdown of NCAA Division II powerhouses. The Buccaneers' win snapped the defending national champion Pirates' 42-match win streak that dated to the beginning of the 2012 season. Mokrzycki and Fabian Groetsch, with whom he forms the No. 2 doubles tandem in Division II, for an 8-6 win over the No. 1 duo of Georgi Rumenov and Daniel Regan in the top doubles slot. The loss was the first of the year for the AASU tandem. He then collected a No. 1 singles win over Rumenov. Mokrzycki, who is ranked No. 7 in Division II, handed the No. 1-ranked Rumenov his first loss of the season, coming from behind to win, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
