ORLANDO -- Barry University men's golf team shot 291-289 -- 580 in the first two rounds of the McDonough Cup hosted by Rollins College at Eagle Creek Golf Club Monday, and occupy seventh place.

The Buccaneers trail leader Florida Tech by eight strokes in the 15-team tournament, which includes 14 ranked teams or those receiving votes in the Golf World/Nike NCAA Division II national poll. The Bucs are ranked No. 1.

Nova Southeastern is second, a stroke behind the Panthers, while Armstrong Atlantic is third at 574. The top 10 teams are within 10 strokes of each other in the 84-player field.

Barry's Adam Svensson and Mario Beltran are tied for 13th at 1-under 143 on the 7,152-yard course which played slow Monday despite sunny skies. Bucs teammate Jared Dalga is tied for 21st at even par. Lander's Robert Prior shot a 6-under 138 in the first 36 holes, and leads the tournament by two strokes over a pack of four tied for second.

The Bucs, which won two tournaments and finished second in another this fall, trail fifth place Columbus State by three strokes and sixth place host Rollins by two.

Barry's Berry Jole is tied for 59th after a 77-73 -- 150 first day. Nico Cavero is tied for 71st at 154 after shooing a pair of 74s.

Beltran sank nine birdie putts. He and Dalga were 3-under in par-5 scoring holes. Svensson is 3-under in par-4 scoring. The Buccaneers had 30 birdies as a team, which trails leader Florida Tech's 36.

Florida Tech was the only team to break par in par-4 scoring holes, putting up an aggregate score of 3.94 to finish at 6-under. Barry was tied for third with Armstrong Atlantic at 4.01 for 1-over. Rollins was even for the day.
