Women's Basketball Routs Wildcats In Return From Break

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers came back from break just like they left, dominating the Johnson & Wales Wildcats 86-63 in women’s basketball action from the Health & Sports Center on New Year’s Eve.

The Bucs (6-3) won their third straight behind 25 points from Tyler Hardy and 16 from Colette Eule. Barry turned a close game into a rout with an 8-0 run midway through the first half. They extended the lead to as many as 19 in the period, leading 38-19 after  a three-pointer by Eule with 2:46 to play, but settled for a 12-point margin at the break.

The Wildcats (7-6) closed to within eight, 56-48, on a jumper by Myia Russell with 11:49 left in the game. The Bucs responded with a 22-10 run over the next eight minutes to go up by 20 and pushed the lead to 26, 86-60, after a free throw by Alesha Jenkins with 0:50 to play.

In addition to Hardy and Eule, Kaylia Richardson had 12 points and Jenkins led the team with nine rebounds. Russell led the Wildcats with a game-high 27 points, while Porscha Williamson had 11 and Joanne Tran added 10.

The Bucs get back into Sunshine State Conference play on Saturday, Jan. 4 when they travel to Florida Southern to face the Mocs.
