MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers (18-8) swept the Molloy Lions in a softball doubleheader at Buccaneer Field on Wednesday afternoon, shutting out the Lions 3-0 and 2-0 in the two games.

GAME ONE

Julie Brito had an RBI double in the first inning and Kristina Pazienza added a two-run homer in the second to account for all the scoring in game one.

Megan Copeland walked with one out and stole second in the first inning. She scored ahead of Brito’s double.

In the second, Lexi Corrente reached on an error by Lions’ shortstop Nicolette Sinagra to lead off the frame. One out later, Pazienza connected for her second homer of the year.

Camille Czarnecki (6-2) started in the circle for the Bucs and picked up the win. She allowed two hits and two walks in five scoreless innings. Taylor Sabol came in for the last two innings and held the Lions (1-7) to just one hit to earn her third save. The save tied the school single-season record, which has been matched eight times, including by Sabol last season. It also moved her into second place on the career list with six, ahead of Brianna Smith (2009-12) and Stephanie Caldwell (1997-2000).

Tracy Balinskas (1-3) took the loss for the Lions. She allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk in six innings.

GAME TWO

In the first inning, Kayla Ogle walked, stole second and came home on a single by Hunter Mars. That was all the offense that Britney Pugh (6-2) needed, as the senior spun a four-hit shutout.

The Bucs added an insurance run in the sixth. Kelly Martinez led off with a triple and Pazienza brought her home with a sacrifice fly.

Pugh allowed two walks and struck out five to toss her third shutout of the season.

Chelsea Hawks (0-3) took the loss for the Lions. She allowed two runs on nine hits and two walks and struck out three.

The doubleheader sweep was the first time the Bucs have swept the Lions in three meetings and evens the series at 4-4.

The Bucs dive back into Sunshine State Conference play this weekend, traveling to Winter Park on Saturday and Sunday to face the Rollins Tars.
